St. Paul's Lutheran School Parent Testimonials

Why We Chose St. Paul’s by Mike and Cristin Kersten

Five years ago, our oldest child was ready to enter pre-school. We were relatively new to the area and knew that our local public school was not an option for our daughter. After doing some research we decided on St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

At first we were simply impressed by the choices they offered in the pre-school program and it was conveniently located to our home. We had decided to enroll our daughter in the five half day four year old program. Our thought was that since she did not attend three year old pre-school at the time this would give her the boost she would need to be prepared for Kindergarten.

Shortly after the school year began her teacher approached us with concerns that she had. Our daughter had always met developmental goals either on schedule or ahead of time, and we had never suspected that there could be any issues with enrolling her in a five day program. After visiting with our pediatrician and several specialists, it was determined that our daughter had borderline Asperger’s Syndrome. She had issues expressing herself in social situations.

After discussing the matter with her teacher we decided to move her to the three half day program that met in the afternoon. It was a much smaller class and afforded our daughter the opportunity to learn and adjust to social situations on a smaller scale without being overwhelmed in the larger class.

When we first started attending St. Paul’s we were mostly just interested in the pre-school program. Our intention was to move out of our school district before our children were in school full-time and they would then attend public school. What we found was so much more than an education for our children. It is five years later and now our daughter is in third grade, and on the honor roll! She has made so many great strides in the last five years. Strides, which I know would not have been possible without the support that we have received from the teacher’s here.

As my daughter advanced through school, the teachers whose classes she was entering were aware of her history and knew how to relate to her in a away that would challenge her and make learning fun! Our son is currently enrolled as well and we are equally as impressed with his education. The pre-school program has grown since our daughter first started at St. Paul’s and he was able to benefit from the growth.

We are now members of the church as well, and no longer is it even a thought sending our children anywhere but here. The relationships that we have made here mean so much to our family. We are now part of a larger family and I am grateful that my children are not only learning their ABC’s but are also receiving a Christian education. We are looking forward to the move to the new school site in Bourbonnais and eagerly await all the exciting opportunities it affords our school and our family.

Why We Chose St. Paul’s by Reid C. Brownfield, AIC

There are many reasons that we decided upon St. Paul’s Lutheran School to send our son, Cody. We were searching for a school that provided full day preschool and had flexible daycare services. We liked the fact that there was a daycare center at the school and we could pick him up after work. A safe, Christian environment was another important factor in our selection, and we found the staff at St. Paul’s to exceed our expectations. Later, as our son grew and attended elementary school, we found that the high quality education, small class sizes, and family Christian atmosphere were key advantages of St. Paul’s school. Our son has benefited as well from extra-curricular activities, band, athletics, and youth group activities. We are well satisfied with our choice of St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

Why We Chose St. Paul’s by Jen and Jeff Wilken

Our son, Jacob, attends St. Paul's because we wanted him to learn in a Christian atmosphere. We knew from Pre-School that this is where he would continue his education. The staff at St. Paul's are dedicated and caring and we know he is safe while he is in school. We also like the small class size and feel that he gets the attention he needs to succeed. Jacob enjoys attending St. Paul's and has made many great friends.

Why We Chose St. Paul’s by Dan Hendrickson

One spring day, when he was in Kindergarten, I remember bringing my son Will home from school.  We were conversing about the day when an ambulance,  warning lights on, sirens blaring, drove past in the opposite direction.  I heard Will say something, but I couldn't hear him.  I asked him to repeat what  said.

"I was saying a prayer for the person in the ambulance."

Wow.  I had to pull over for a moment, my eyes filling with tears of pride and amazement.  Although his mother and I have done our best to raise him to be a fine Christian boy,  I know he has learned much of God's love through the teachers, pastors and staff at St. Paul's.  If choosing a school were just about basic education, the reading, writing and arithmetic, I can find several schools that can meet those requirements.  But I want my son to have more,  I want him surrounded by people living their faith.  People that encourage him to share his faith.  People that help him grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.

God has blessed me with an incredible gift, my son Will.  As his parent, I always want the best for him.
I want him to attend St. Paul's Lutheran School.

Dan Hendrickson
