What Children Learn - Early 3´s
Circle Time – Circle Time at this age consists of counting on the calendar and talking about the weather. This is also a time for reading stories about the theme that is being studied. Pre-Reading/Language – Children are exposed to age appropriate literature on a daily basis. Children’s books are also available for children to look at independently. Oral speech is practiced by encouraging children to talk about and describe the world around them. Math Skills – Children are introduced to basic counting skills during Circle Time and during other games and activities. Fine Motor – Young three-year-olds are able to work on their fine-motor skills by using markers and crayons. They are also able to use simple puzzles and stacking toys. Gross Motor – Daily play time is given either outdoors or indoors. Children are given the opportunity to play games and use balls, hoops, ribbons, and other appropriate toys. What Children Learn – 3 Year Old Preschool
Circle Time – Circle Time is part of a preschooler’s daily routine. Children will learn about months and days of the week. They will practice counting daily on the calendar. Children also make daily observations about the world around them during discussions about weather, holidays, etc… Preschoolers also learn various songs, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Pledge to the Cross. Circle Time also allows three-year-olds to practice speaking out loud and in complete sentences. Pre-Reading/Language – Children will be introduced to the letters of the alphabet. They will also learn to recognize their first name. Children will learn concept words such as: over, under, up, down. They will also learn to recognize basic colors (red, purple, yellow, green, blue, black, orange, and brown). Children are also exposed daily to age appropriate literature. Children’s books are also available for children to look at independently. Math Skills – Children will begin learning about shapes and some size concepts (big, small, bigger, smaller). Children will also practice counting and simple sorting. Fine Motor – Three-year-olds will have daily practice tracing their first names. They will learn how to use scissors. Three-year-olds will also have opportunities to use crayons, markers, glue, etc… Completing simple puzzles and building with blocks are also a part of developing fine motor skills in three-year-old preschool. Gross Motor – Daily play time is given either outdoors or indoors. Children are given the opportunity to play games and use balls, hoops, ribbons, and other appropriate toys.What Children Learn – 4 Year Old Preschool
Social/Emotional – Preschoolers are able to learn to play and work cooperatively with their peers. They are also given opportunities to make choices and take responsibility for their actions and behaviors. Circle Time – Circle Time is part of a preschooler’s daily routine. Children will learn about months and days of the week. They will practice counting daily on the calendar. Children also make daily observations about the world around them during discussions about weather, holidays, etc… Preschoolers also learn various songs, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Pledge to the Cross. Pre-Reading/Language – Children will learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet. They will also be introduced to letter sounds. Children will learn to write their first name independently. Preschoolers are exposed to age appropriate literature on a daily basis. Children’s books are also available for children to look at independently. Math Skills – Children will learn to recognize numbers. They will also learn to count orally and count objects. Preschoolers will also learn to sort in a variety of ways and will begin to recognize patterns. Shapes are also included in our curriculum. Children will also begin to learn spatial concepts such as: over, under, bigger, smaller, etc…. Fine Motor – Preschoolers will learn to hold a pencil properly. They will also have practice using writing instruments, crayons, markers, etc… Children will learn to cut simple lines and shapes and be given opportunities to trace, draw, and use glue. Gross Motor – Daily play time is given either outdoors or indoors. Children are given the opportunity to play games and use balls, hoops, ribbons, and other appropriate toys.
